About 011-Magazine
O11-Magazine is about creating community by collaborating on-line. Each edition of 011-Magazine is dedicated to expanding and amplifying core communities. Individuals, companies and advertisers enjoy quick exposure and meaningful connection.
We use the Motioncore communication platform to bring together all members of a community: writers, photographers, experts, layman, fans and advertisers alike. Everyone helps to put the magazine together. It doesn't matter if you're already heavily involved in a specific community or are looking to break-in, there's a spot for you. Choose from the following: join the Core Team to maintain the structure, contribute original work to be voted on, vote on the work to decide which pieces will make it to the printed magazine or become a sponsor and get instant exposure on-line. The process, in and of itself, provides a great way to see and be seen. And the by-product is a tangible magazine that circulates within the community.
Each edition of 011-Magazine supports a specific community (Comic-Con, SEMA etc.). The Core Team selects the community and the theme and makes sure the final product is beautiful. Contributors up-load original writing, images and video that relates to the theme and the community. Anyone and everyone is welcome to vote on the quality of the up-loaded work. They just have to register for free on Motioncore.com. Sponsors can get positive exposure and site traffic by pitching in as little as $100.00 for a 011 Boxlet. The more contributors and funds raised, the more magazines printed and the more given back to team members and contributors.
011-Magazine content varies depending on the community being served but the focus is always on people and their creations. Beyond that, it's about all the good stuff you want in your life like: travel, food & drink, events, art, technology, humor, design, gear, trends and cool gadgets. 011-Magazine aims to be the kind of magazine that you have a hard time tossing into the trash. It should linger on coffee tables for months, if not years.
The submission policy is very open. When you upload an article or image to 011-Magazine, you agree that you own the content and allow 011-Magazine to publish your work. Upon approval of your article you may be required to sign a release form. We claim one year of ownership of your submission in order to promote you and the project/publication.
The magazine content is split into two. The "core team", and "011 community"
The core team contributes here... community contributes over here
The Core team establishes the theme and provides anchor content based upon it. In this case it's "Sunny Side Up." The 011-Magazine for Comic Con community can do whatever it darn well pleases. They dont even have to follow instructions. No borders. Have fun. Even though, we prefer articles on gaming information, science & technology, travel, social commentary.
"blogs" are like teasers, the content can be taken for a further discussion on the "forum". If the author prefers, they can take their content to have a mash-up in order to have a prequel, rewritten, or sequel on the wiki pages.
Here is a great example.

FAQs
"Come, come again, whoever you are, come!
Heathen, fire worshipper or idolatrous, come!
Come even if you broke your penitence a hundred times,
Ours is the portal of hope, come as you are."
Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi 1207-1273
Nice quote but ehhh...how about you cut to the chase? What is this "011-Magazine" all about?
O11-Magazine is about collaborating on-line. We use the Motioncore communication platform to bring together all interested parties, writers, photographers, illustrators, designers, advertisers anyone that is interested into arts. Everyone helps to put the magazine together. The creative process, in and of itself, provides a great way to see and be seen.
Each edition of 011-Magazine aims to amplify and support a specific community. In this case, creative people. Artists, designers, photographers and writers interested in riffing on the theme "Sunny Side Up" and Comic-Con are invited to collaborate on-line and have their work voted and commented on by others. Artists and writers display their work and sponsors pitch in as little as $100.00 to support the scene and get traffic. The more funds raised, the more magazines printed and the more given back as salary and awards to team members and contributors.
Why do it?
The more good stuff you read and the more good people you meet, the better your life is. Play your cards right and the Internet can help you do both.
We want to show that "the new world order" happening on-line isn't to be feared, publishing isn't doomed and the "future of work" is actually kinda nice. Just because we may not be fighting traffic and meeting-up at offices, five days a week for eight hours anymore doesn't mean we're all going to live sad, isolated lives. Now you can work any place you want and seek out the company of people you actually enjoy.
Rather than slumping in our chairs and waiting find out how this new media landscape will get sorted out, we stand in favor of rewarding and nourishing creative people. We believe that, given adequate structure, we can collaborate to do something more great than any one expert or elite group. By using the Motioncore communication platform we can bring together a vast pool of creative people and scale the creative process.
Is there a problem you are solving?
Yes, we are tackling a major problem. How do you create original, engaging content, publish it in a high quality format, make reasonably sure all parties involved are happy and even generate revenue?
Now anybody with a smart-phone can record and broadcast themselves. The traditional business model for producing creative work is top heavy and struggling to compete. The problem is disjointed, production and communication.
Solution
Bring down the cost of production and boost scalability by using the Motioncore communication platform. This will make production quick and agile.
Sound idealistic? Dreamy --even? Well it's not.
We aren't trying to make a magazine for everyone. We want to produce something by and for people in or around the creative field as it relates to Comic-Con, and shows adjacent to it caters to similar creative audience such as E3, Anime-Expo, Siggraph. It's all for one and one for all; individuals producing and judging content for one another.
Value Proposition
Everyone basks in the warm glow of a great, forward thinking project. Creative people get a new outlet for their work, vistors and subscribers enjoy fresh, fabulous content, members get a real-world case study of the future of collaboration and sponsors benefit from the low cost of reach and frequency to a very specific audience. Each person accesses a huge network of like minded people
Create and print a magazine that explores the future of work, TV, green energy, design, arts and entertainment via on-line "community." People come together globally to create and package tasty art, design, photography and writing by using the Motioncore communication platform. The cost of making something decreases and the amount of people you can reach increases.
What's the Core Team?
The Core Team handles the everyday details. Core Team members get credit in the printed magazine and a free sponsor boxlet. To join pick a job title from the list and commit at least an hour a day for a few weeks.
Core Team tasks are simple, like, re-sizing photos or fixing typos. The real work to be done by Core Team members is to pushing the theme and carrying the soul of the project. You to need BEELIEEVE in it and be happy to spread the word. Because the more people involved in the 011-Magazine-for-Comic-Con Project, the better the magazine will be. So even if you're a sensitive, introverted, black turtleneck wearing artist, you'll need to tweet on Twitter or share on Facebook or post a video on YouTube or write an impassioned blog entry or tap someone on the shoulder and give them an earful about the 011-Magazine-for-Comic-Con Project etc. and so on. Do whatever floats your boat. Then you can go back to your drafting table or take a nap if you prefer.
Core Team members can contribute work but cannot accept any 011-Magazine contributor based awards. Come join now!
What do the Contributors get?
All contributors get attention and feedback --and possibly money. Once you upload your work, Motioncore.com members can come rate your piece and give you feedback. The work with the most positive feedback, from Motioncore.com members, get ranked as first, second and third place winners respectively. Depending on the level of sponsorship we attain the top rated contributors could get not only recognition but a monetary reward as well.
And the Sponsors? What do they get?
Sponsors get reach and frequency to a high quality, relevant traffic to a very specific demo. Loyal fans, creative people and Hollywood elite all come together for Comic-Con. If you work in or in anyway serve the Comic-Con community this is a great way to connect, fast. Anyone like, writers, bloggers, photographers, illustrators, designers, moviemakers, gaming companies, app makers, developers, toy lovers and artisans can spend as little as $100.00 for a directory boxlet. Your custom boxlet sits on the directory page and links to your site or social media profile for at least 6 years. It's a CRAZY price. Yahoo charges $299.00 PER year for this.
Everyone is welcome to buy boxlets, which are available in 100-pixel 'blocks' (each measuring 10x10 pixels) that will be displayed on the 011-Magazine-for-Comic-Con Collage directory page. Customize it and order a larger boxlet if you want to make a bigger impression. You can also sponsor an on-line Collage directory page or bid on ad space in the printed magazine.
And the voting members? What's in it for them?
The simple pleasure of anonymous feedback. Aren't you curious about what people think of your work? If you see or read something you love, don't you want to tell the person? Talk about good Karma. Woo wee.
Who are you?
Oh hi! My name is Baris Tansel, I live in Los Angeles, California which is where I built the Motioncore communication platform. I want you to come to Motioncore.com in order to connect to everything in life that matters to you. Sounds intense, right? But I really did build the Motioncore platform to bring everything in the world that suits you, specifically, in 360, right to your finger tips. When I speak I don't sound as much like an advertisment but, I do mean what I'm writing here.
I have a degree in Industrial Design with an emphasis on Entertainment from Art Center College of Design. I have held all manner of positions as a designer from assistant to management. I've worked on budgets as low as $2500 and as high as $98 million. Way before design, I had a passion for sports cars and cracking computer code. My engineer dad taught me how to alter video games on a Sinclair 128K. Those were the days! Building out Motioncore.com has allowed me to reconnect to my 9-year-old "deconstructing video games" days --something that I had let go as I pursued design.
My career has come full circle as I've combined my professional experience and training with my childhood ambition. I am very excited about using the communication platform I created to do the 011-Magazine-for-Comic-Con Project. With the economy in a tail spin and people wondering where we're all headed, I honestly believe we are all going to the great "cloud" in the data center. We have nothing to fear and should actually be excited about the future of "work."
I believe this collaborative project, where everyone gets to say "We did it!" can be a genuine source of hope. I think creating and printing a fabulous magazine works because hey, everyone still loves cool magazines.

I am Ellie Johnston, an armchair social-anthropologist. While I am not specifically driven by comic books, anime costumes or computer coding I do love getting to know what makes people tick. Why are Comic-Con attendees so loyal? How did Japanese culture hook American teens? Why are there literally thousands of responses to the "banned weapons" portion of the Anime Expo forum?
I have worked in on-line advertising and marketing for the past 5 years. So in that sense I love seeing what makes people click (forgive me). Before becoming a professional sit-in-front-of-a-computer-person, I was in China and Taiwan on a language scholarship. I stayed there for about five years. When not studying Mandarin I taught English, did sub-titling for Taiwanese HBO and drank lots of coffee. I like to observe. In fact, I'd watch "The Real Housewives" of just about anywhere.
I have a B.S. in Communications as well as a B.A. in Mandarin from the University of Texas at Austin. I occasionally write the Ellie Pop blog about the emerging mobile communications pop cultures in China and the U.S. I live in Los Angeles with my pet rock "Pepsi."
I am thrilled to be a part of the 011-Magazine-for-Comic-Con Project because I feel like I'm getting insider information about the future. I appreciate the altruistic and bold spirit of this collaborative adventure. I am proud to help push these mighty fine pixels.

I am Tom Tor. I bring over a decade of visual arts experience to the mix. Having worked at agencies such as Chiat\Day and Ogilvy & Mather, I know what high-profile brands crave in terms of art direction. My design philosophy centers on crisp, clear visuals. I am commited to producing challenging, intelligent, trend-setting work. I believe abstract ideas and strategic goals can be effectively communicated via the proper use of typography, color and form. The highest aim for art direction should be to transcend the need for linquistic translation.
You like awards? I got 'em, including: the United Nations Award of Excellence in Geneva, International Human Rights Award, and Design of Excellence. I am a graduate of Art Center College. I like long walks on the beach but do not care for Pina Coladas or getting caught in the rain.

My name is Adam Ballard, I grew up in Los Angeles, and Virginia. Snaaaap!
Is this some kind of gimmick?
Mmmmm....no. We are completely genuine. We want to show proof of concept; that via on-line collaboration you can make something remarkable and not only do you NOT have to starve, you can thrive. This is also our way to spot light and reward great creative talent. We are creative hustlers and proud of it.
Why do you guys need $11,100,000 million to publish a magazine?
We don't. Production and printing can be expensive but certainly not that steep --especially, when you have people, who know what they are doing (wink). But we feel it's important to set a large enough goal to where it inspires action. The more funds we raise the more goes back to the contributors and the contributors' local communities. This project aims high.
Why are you talking dollars, not euros, or pounds?
US dollars are the closest thing we have to a universal currency on-line and Comic-Con takes place in San Diego, California. Plus, "The Eleven Million, Hundred Thousand Euro Magazine Project" just doesn't have the same ring to it.
Just do a digital magazine. Why deal with printing it?
To just do digital won't work. We want to flip publishing inside out and back again. The idea is to turn everything inside out; new meets old, hierarchy meets decentralization, digital meets paper. We are building a global community on-line but, we crave classic documentation just like a cop wants your physical driver's license when he can easily look it up from his crusier.
A printed magazine serves as a simple, tangable reminder that being creative, rocks. It will be a great read and a beautiful portfolio piece that people will want to hang on to for years. The Internet is filled with great stuff but rarely is it well aggregated and packaged together in one super convenient spot.
This is awfully idealistic. It sounds like Obama's "Yes, we can!" shtick.
To the uninitiated, the project might sound like, "Let's get together and have a hippy potluck." However, we are not blind optimists.
This model is tried and true. Decentralized, "crowd sourcing" works. Everyone; the core team, community members, and voting members contribute independently on their own time without micro-management or fear of losing their parking space. Everyone gets a piece of pie based on how much they do to push this project forward.
We're adding our own unique twist by combining traditional sales, with on-line marketing and collaboration. The beautiful part is that if we reach even a fraction of our goal, we can be happy. "Yes, we can?" More like "Oh yaaah, we did!"
If you want money for the magazine, why don't you get a high paying job, ask Oprah or go for VC money?
Meh. The higher your salary goes up the more meetings you attend. This is more fun and offers something more to the world. It's a worthwhile challenge.
But now that you mention it, getting funded by Oprah or a venture capitalist is a great idea. Investors are welcome to contribute, as long as the term sheet is in plain English and they do not want to direct the creative process or be entirely focused on the bottom-line worrying about what looks good on the books.
This is a lot of money. Is it really necessary?
I agree. It is a lot of money.
Well...it is and isn't. Do you realize the level of debt under which many creative people struggle? It's a jungle out there. Creative people need some fat cash.
A good art school costs over $16,000 a term and that's just tuition -that's not including materials, books, living expenses etc. A typicall full-length education requires eight terms. That adds up to over $128,000 for tuition only. Tack on the rest, such as: bare minimum basic living expenses at $30,000 a year, you are looking at over $220,000 dollars. This isn't including materials for your projects, nor books. You are literally looking at over $220,000 dollars for a creative degree.
We can, by the way, give positive recognition to any lending institution that is willing to forgive a project member's student loan debt. What better way to give consumers a warm, fuzzy feeling inside about you than to publicly reward talent and passion? Bank of America. Chase. Wells Fargo. Our doors are always open.
Don't you know that a lot of publishing houses are going under? This won't work.
Yes, the publishing industry is scrambling. That's for several reasons one of which is that communication is massively disjointed.
The 011-Magazine-for-Comic-Con Project will succeed not just because we have almost zero overhead but largely because we're not looking to be in the publishing business but rather, the communication business. Using the Motioncore communication platform means we can dramatically drop the cost of producing a magazine. Contributors, newbies and veterans, students and working professionals can upload images and articles at their own pace wherever they are. Plus, advertisers get to integrate themselves with a sophisticated audience in way that scales and is transparent.
Oh so, you are just another ad network?
Nope, we are not an ad network.
The 011-Magazine-for-Comic-Con Project is a bona fide collaborative effort from which everyone benefits. For as little as $100.00 advertisers get a trackable pixel, a controlled environment and the positive brand association of being part of the 011-Magazine-for-Comic-Con Project.
It seems like you know your stuff. However, I dunno...
Fair enough. It might seem like this a bunch of pie-in-the-sky talk. Whiz, bang, pow and a bunch of artistic people make money off the Internet! But there is nothing impossible about this project.
If you are new to thinking about on-line business models you may not realize what a big deal it is to be able to communicate with and organize oodles of people on the cheap. It's huge. It means regular people can work together and rival any media Goliath. It evens out the playing field. So rather than sitting on your hands and reading doomsday stories, on your iPad, about the uncertain future of media, let's shape together. It's not as hard as you think it is because, now you and so very many other people can do a little work and together make a masterpiece.
There's no need to starve for your art anymore. You help yourself and others by organizing on-line.
Can I put a count of your boxlet sales on my site/blog?
Certainly! The code is:
<a href="http://www.011-magazine.com/" title="Eleven million dollar
magazine"><img src="http://www.011-magazine.com/pixelcount.gif"
alt="Eleven million dollar magazine progress report" border="0" width="495"
height="45"></a>
This will display as: Eleven million dollar magazine progress report
The graphic will be updated automatically every time pixels are added to the site!
